We are seeking VP, Accounting to lead M-Files' global accounting, treasury, and tax organization.
The role reports directly to the CFO & COO, who is based in Austin, Texas, and leads a seven-person team across Finland and India. The position is a member of the Finance and Operations leadership team and works closely with FP&A, Legal, Commercial Operations, IT, People & Culture and business leaders across the company. External stakeholders include the Board of Directors, investors, auditors, banking partners, debt holders, and external tax and statutory advisors.
The position can be based in Helsinki or Tampere, with a preference for Helsinki. You can work in a flexible hybrid model with regular office presence, typically 2–4 days per week. Occasional late hours may be required when working with US colleagues, but this is not a weekly occurrence. The role also involves approximately one or two trips per year within Europe or to the US.
Key tasks and responsibilities
Lead the global monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
Own consolidated financial reporting across multiple entities, countries, and currencies
Provide leadership in technical accounting areas, including revenue recognition, expenses, stock compensation, and capital expenditures and serve as the in-house subject matter expert
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global accounting team
Drive continuous improvement, automation, and scalability of accounting processes, systems, and controls
Own the external audits and maintain a strong internal control environment
Partner closely with FP&A, Legal, Commercial Operations, and business leaders across the company
Oversee treasury, cash management, and banking relationships in partnership with Finance leadership
Contribute to strategic initiatives, including acquisitions, integrations, and finance transformation projects
Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and tax reporting requirements across all jurisdictions
Present key accounting matters and financial results to executive leadership and support Board-level reporting as needed
Key tools include NetSuite ERP, Zuora for subscription and revenue management, Salesforce and M-Files.
What M-Files is looking for
Required
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
KHT, HT, CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including several years of line management experience
Strong knowledge of IFRS and Finnish Accounting Standards
Experience working in a software or SaaS business
Experience managing global accounting operations across multiple legal entities and countries
Proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams
Experience managing audits and working with external advisors
Strong ERP and financial systems experience
Professional fluency in English is required, Finnish language skills are preferred
Preferred
Experience in a private equity-backed and/or high-growth software company
Experience in applying AI and automation to improve finance workflows and ways of working
Familiarity with transfer pricing and with accounting frameworks beyond IFRS, such as US GAAP
Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, and post-acquisition integration activities
Experience in treasury and cash management
Combination of public accounting and industry experience
