Exel Composites is looking for an Application Development Engineer for a key role in their international Application Engineering team.

In this position, your tasks are in the development and optimization of Exel’s conductor core and other products, ensuring they meet evolving market and customer needs.

Basic information

• Location: Mäntyharju or Joensuu, Finland.
• Remote work: Onsite 5 days per week.
• Travelling: Production is in Mäntyharju, from Joensuu travelling to Mäntyharju is expected minimum 1 week out of a month. From Mäntyharju no regular travel is required, but occasional visits to other production sites may be needed (approx. 20 business days per year).
• Permanent, full-time role.
• Starting date flexible as per agreement.

Responsibilities

• Development and optimization of conductor core and other products.
• Develop and ramp-up new product line and its production processes.
• Perform feasibility studies and technology fit analysis.
• Provide technical support to the sales team and customers.
• Perform cost and technical calculations, as well as troubleshooting.
• Execute the ramp-up process for new products.
• Prepare and manage technical, product, quality, and ERP documentation, including product approval and release to production.
• Support production in their daily activities and technical problem-solving.

Knowledge and skills

The right candidate has:

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Experience in product/production development.
• Strong technical understanding (e.g. mechanical engineering, structural analysis, strength calculations).
• Project management experience in product development and customer projects.
• Experience of working in customer interface and industrial production.
• Ability to create and perform project and development plans, schedules and budgets.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, in English and Finnish.
• Cross cultural understanding and teamwork capability.
• Strong self-drive and a continuous learning mindset, particularly in composite materials and power transmission applications.

It is seen as a plus if you have:

• Experience with composites, overhead transmission lines or conductors.
• Experience in stranding processes and understanding of stranded conductor core (or stranded metal rope/cable) design and dimensioning.
