We are looking to hire an innovative Hydraulic Design Engineer to strengthen Kongsberg Maritime’s standard thrusters, US product group team at Kongsberg Maritime Finland Oy. The role is located in Rauma and you can work in flexible hybrid model.

As a Hydraulic Design Engineer, your main responsibility will be to design and maintain new and existing thruster units. Most of the design work is done in close collaboration with the product management team as well as with other stakeholders. We are looking for a creative problem-solver with good communication skills as you are expected to design new and develop existing solutions.

Key responsibilities and main tasks
As a Hydraulic Design Engineer your work will be divided between new product development, maintaining existing product portfolio and delivery project designing based on customer needs. Most design work is done in close collaboration with the product management team.

Hydraulic design focus areas are e.g. hydraulic schematics, steering torque requirements and lubrication needs. At Kongsberg, hydraulic designers do not handle hydrodynamics; instead, they focus on topics such as hydraulic oil flow in the device and steering motor, hydraulic pressure, and cooling of the unit. The main tools are Teamcenter NX, AutoCAD (for schematics) and some in-house systems for documentation.

The main responsibilities are:

• Design new hydraulic solutions and products as part of the engineering team
• Develop and maintain the existing products
• Provide technical support within the engineering team and other internal functions as needed
• Maintain and improve technical documentation

Experience, skills and knowledge to succeed in the role

• At least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, e.g. mechanical or hydraulics engineering

• Good oral and written English, Finnish is beneficial
• Basic understanding of hydraulics and the ability to read hydraulic schematics and symbols
  • Knowledge of fluid behavior and the ability to apply formulas
  • Ability to interpret diagrams and understand their overall meaning
• Previous experience with 2D and 3D design tools, NX and AutoCAD are considered advantages

Previous working experience in similar roles is highly valued. Ideally, the candidate will already have a solid background in hydraulic design, but experience in mechanical or electrical engineering can also be considered.
